This is a quick and dirty demonstration of a new editor I'm making in and for Dark Basic Professional. It's called "Cherokee Level Editor". This is what I have after about 5 days of working on it while slacking off constantly. The current version is v0.01.9.6, it's just an alpha test but there are no known bugs. When a bug is found, it's fixed immediately. Bug fixing and making the editor easy and friendly to use takes priority over new features. The editor's interface is an imitation of Second Life's building system. It's not 100% like SL though, yet... The video's been sped up about 4 times to get through it pretty fast since it was actually kind of boring to sit and watch as I used windows and menus thatwere off screen. I'm a part of a group in Second Life called "Builder Tribe", and some day this editor will enable us to make a video game outside of Second Life. the members of Builder Tribe has been involved in producing interactive 3d content for Ferrari, Rormula 1 Racing, Vodafone, Air4 Italia, Honda, Sunbelt Software, Language Lab, Telecom Italia, Alice, San Siro Stadium. And those are just the ones I know of in particular because I was there, being one of the artists and programmers for the content. The idea isn't to make a modeler, but something to quickly make levels and positioning stuff within those levels.

Mar 22, 2008 - Yes it is, it's in the TGC WIP forums under "Cherokee Level Editor" and it's open source. I'm still working on it. Just added "hidey windows" to eliminate screen clutter for low resolution displays. Next, I'm going to try to work on a terrain editing engine.

Jul 31, 2008 - First of all very nice work, i know how hard it is to get the mouse to interact with a 3d environment, smoothly, i cant even imagine how you did it, cant wait to check the source, although ive never played second life i did see allot of the 3ds-max (i use 9) basic object modifiers (not sure on the right words there), like rotation and movement, really nice though, can it export though? alec

Aug 23, 2008 - Making a tree with primitives in a level editor in not a great idea. A model or something generated with speedtree would be best.

Sep 1, 2008 - so, in dark basic pro, you can actually go into the landscape you're making and edit it? i'm asking because i only have clasic
luccaskunk Escribio:
Sep 4, 2008 - Yes, and you can do it in DBC too... but you have to make the editor yourself. To toni459, I was simply demonstrating the Second Life like editing ability. Wasn't meaning to give the impression that prim trees are a good idea.

Sep 4, 2008 - The song's name is in the description, it's Here's that Rainy Day by Astruct Gilberto and Walter Wanderly.

Oct 26, 2008 - nice theme music and epic!!!!!! game! i'm getting DBC do u think thats a good choice. please comment
luccaskunk Escribio:
Oct 27, 2008 - no, DBC is not a good choice. DBPro isn't even a good choice. DBC is antiquated and if you insist on using DarkBasic at all, I suggest DBPro. However, keep in mind that it's more of a hardcore hobbiest engine than anything serious.
hares295 Escribio:
Nov 25, 2008 - Thats very nice, how did you build the vehicles (tanks, spacecraft...), and, how did you made this program with DrakBasic Pro. I got the DBPro too, but, i didnt got to make a game yet with it.
luccaskunk Escribio:
Nov 26, 2008 - The vehicles were loaded in from models. This is basically just a placement editor. It loads up assets, allows you to place them, resize them, retexture them, apply pixel shaders, set up various things such as full-bright, ambient lighting, fog, etc. Then it stores the the scene you've created to a definition file which can be easily loaded up in a game.
hares295 Escribio:
Nov 26, 2008 - WEll, its a cool editor anyway. Thats pretty much after 5 days of work, how many hours did you worked on it? Im going to search for the editor, and more for its code.:)
RsJelly Escribio:
Nov 29, 2008 - This looks really good. Is it based at making a map or a model?
